Access Yahoo Mail from Outlook Express or Thunderbird with YPOPs

Unlike Gmail and some other free email providers that allow us to access email through a mail client, Yahoo Mail service does not provide this feature. Access via Yahoo POP email service offered on a commercial basis. As a way out, try using YPOPs. Download YPOPs, and then install them onto your computer.

After that, do the addition of account on your mail client program. For example, here's how to add Yahoo Mail account in Outlook Express.


  • In Outlook Express, click Tools menu> Accounts.

  • Click the Add> Mail.
  • Type in your name, then click Next.

  • Type your Yahoo email address, then click Next.
  • Make sure the option My incoming mail server is POP3. Enter 127.0.0.1 in the box Incoming (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server and Outgoing mail (SMTP) mail server. Click Next.

  • Such as logging into Yahoo Mail via the web, type your Yahoo ID in the Account name: and your password on the Password:. Click Next.

  • Click Finish. Internet Accounts dialog box is displayed again with an additional account named 127.0.0.1.
  • Click the new account, then click the Properties button.
  • Change the name of the account into YPOPs or another name that you will remember.
  • Click the Servers tab, then activate the checkbox My server requires authentication.
  • Click the Advanced tab, then drag the Server timeouts to 5 minutes (maximum).
  • If you want the email messages in Yahoo is not deleted after downloaded, activate the checkbox Leave a copy of messages on server. If not, then your email in the Yahoo servers will be deleted after you copy it into Outlook Express (local computer). Click OK.
  • Click on Close.
  • Now you can manage your Yahoo email such as managing other POP email. Click the Send / Recv to pull email from Yahoo server and send you an email draft.
The configuration of YPOPs and Thunderbird more or less the same, except the charging POP / Incoming Server, type localhost instead of 127.0.0.1. The value of its fixed 127.0.0.1 SMTP.
